The above article explains that children with imaginary friends develop their talking and creativity skills sooner than children who do not.

I had an imaginary friend when I was little, I was only the only child around for like 3 years. My mother must have thought he was such a distraction for me when she had to cook supper!

I don;t see anything wrong in having an imaginary friend, just as long as they are not replacing real friends when they are around.

Hope you all are well!!

So as of Thursday my Town (Thompson Manitoba) we got put on a Water Boil Advisory, which means that our water treatment plant broke down and they can’t garantee that the water is safe to drink. Usually, we have the best water ever! But some person overloaded the system and broke a valve and there is bad water floating all over the city now! They say this advisory will be in effect until at least Monday (the 17th).

So at work on Thursday, someone from the provincial side of our office (I was from the federal side) comes up to me and tells me that the BRHA (Burntwood Regional Health Authority) says we have to wash our hands with Bleach, but the advisory says we can still wash dishes and do laundry with the water.

So I call my mum (who just happens to work at the BRHA) and ask her why would they ask me to wash my hands with bleach, and she called the communications person and he says EFF NO (paraphrasing of course) because Bleach is Corrosive!

So the next day (which just happened to be my last day of work) the same guy sees me washing my hands in the kitchen and gives me hell for just using soap. Well I had to be nice so I just told him that I talked to the BRHA and they said that they hadn’t told anyone that and that it must have been an misunderstanding and that I am a grown-up and he is not to make my descisions regarding my personal cleanliness.

So I will continue to boil my water, which sucks the big one, but I will not wash my hands with bleach.

{August 14, 2009}   Whoo For Last Day of Work!!

Today is my LAST DAY OF WORK here at the Service Canada Centre for Youth, and though I wouldn’t have minded working one more week, I’m kind of glad its over.

Today I am throwing a Closing/Student Appreciation BBQ (how original, I know) and then I will clean up, and close up, leavig this branch of the federal government behind. I may go into government again one day, but I won’t come back to this job. I believe you should never dread going to work, I haven’t for any of my other jobs. Yes I know I am a student and I should have shit jobs that suck and mold me as a person, but how will I figure out exactly what I want to do if all I have is shit jobs?

Next summer I will probably work for Manitoba Highways, now there’s a shit job, amazing money, but a shit job. Unfortunately for me, I was not the type of person to qualify for scholarships, so I had to get a line of credit. and with the economy sucking as it is now, I did not qualify to get more money, so I had to pay this line of credit back to be able to afford school next year. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :’( That also means that every cent I earned this summer went to school, and I will have to get a job once I am in Antigonish, again, major BOO!

I leave on the 27th, SO EXCITED!! Its gonig to be really fun, right now it looks like we are going to go Kyaking at Hopewell Rocks (on the Bay of Fundy), I have never been Kyaking before!! Its gonna be AWESOME!!!

Other plans are not definate, but looks like we will be visiting Green Gables in PEI, Science North in Sudbury, The National War Museum in Ottawa, among others.

I will get to blog a bit more next week, I have a few thigns I want to talk about but haven’t had the time!

Hope all of you are well :)

{August 7, 2009}   Goodbye John Hughes

I woke up this morning to find that the director of several of my favourite movies, John Hughes, had died. Shocked, I furiously check several websites that all confirm that, unfortunately, this report was true, heart attack at age 59.

John Hughes was the director responsible for the epitomy of teen agnst movies such as The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles, as well as teen classics such as Weird Science, Ferris Beuller’s Day off and Home Alone (1 and 2). For many (including myself), John’s movies gave some light to teenage life and the fact that no, you aren’t alone.

Tonight, members of my family and I will be having a John Hughes marathon and we will watch these movies that we grew up with and honor the director who made relatively few movies, but was a cinematic genius. We will thank him for bringing us characters like John Bender, Ferris Bueller, Ducky and the various Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall characters.

Alright get to it, go rent a John Hughes movie, you will be better for it.

RIP John Hughes (1950-2009)

If you have not read the books and have not seen this movie yet, I would stop reading unless you want this movie ruined for you

I have now seen the sixth installment of the Harry Potter series twice(in a week! – movies come here late), and although I did enjoy the movie, it definately had to be viewed as a seperate entity from the book.

As I discussed with other people, there didn’t seem to be a main plot, just all sub-plots.

SPOILER I also have a beef with the fact that they burnt the Burrow down! he Burrow is supposed to be a essential part of the Seventh (and eighth) movies. How are Bill and Fluer supposed to get married?!?! What about Dobby’s death and burial?!?! They BETTER not leave that out.

I also have a beef with the fact they didn’t play up the Half Blood Prince at all, Harry even says he doesn’t care who it is, but in the book he OBSESSES over who this person is.

I also felt that Dumbledore’s death was kind of cheap, what about the battle? and why did Harry just watch? ARG!

Anyways, the quidditch sucked and isn;t Ron supposed to snog more people? and since when is the Room of Requirement Harry’s makeout room? I would like to know .. haha

I wish there were more Weasley Twins, just as long as they don’t get cut out of Deathly Hallows.

Over all, as a movie it was AMAZING, and so funny, much funnier than the others. But in comparison to the book, I was not impressed, I am curious to see if they pull anything out in Deathly Hallows that was left out so far that has no lead up?

Meh, just my opinion, I will watch it a million times over because I am a Harry Potter freak.

{August 7, 2009}   The summer is winding down ..

..and it is almost time to head back to school. I am done work on August 14th, 7 days from now (damn you headquarters I need more money *shakes fist*) and I am kind of relieved, I miss just being a student.

In a few weeks I will start the drive back to Nova Scotia, and to X!! I miss Antigonish a lot, all of my friends, I never felt this close to my high school friends (bad I know) and I am SO FAR away from my university friends during the summer months. The closest are in Edmonton and Toronto, so not close at all. I can’t wait to start my second year, but I can wait for the part time job I have to find once I’m there.

This summer was a .. rather disappointing one, it rained all the time and work was kinda of boring, I thought worknig for the federal government would be rewarding, but it definately wasn’t. I sat on Wikipedia more that anything because no one ever came to use my services (no dirty jokes please) and I feel like such a unproductive person, plus the money wasn’t what I had hoped.

I am very excited to drive out to Nova Scotia again, yes it is very far but it is rewarding. My boyfriend is taking me this time and we are planning on camping along the way, it should be a good experience, despite the fact that I am not the best camper. We have already started our concrete planning (less stress that way) and we are planning the most cost efficient trip we possibly can. Activities that are inexpensive or coupons (gotta love the coups :P ) and decided what activities we really want to do rather than doing stuff just because we are there.

If there are any suggestions for what we should do, I would be very grateful for them. We are gonig from Thompson, MB to Antigonish, NS but spending time in PEI and Halifax as well (both out of the way).

{July 30, 2009}   I just Need to Vent

Okay So I was almost hit by a car like a half hour ago .. well actually it was a huge truck!

I will tell you what happened ..

I am at the office and I went across the street to get a tea (coffee =GROSS), I was crossing Mystery Lake Road (one of the major streets in my town) and I had a “Walk” light so I cross the street and I get about half way and suddenly a HUGE TRUCK turning left cuts in front of me, barely missing me by like an inch. He then honks at me for “Being in His way” even though that “Walk” light means I have the right of way.

I drive myself and I don’t understand what sort of rush you are in if you can’t wait one minute when the light is still very green, to wait for the pedestrian who you will certainly injure with your huge truck, to cross the street.

I am helping the environment here while you are not.

Sorry, had to vent.

{July 29, 2009}   My Life Since March ..

So how have you been? I have been extrememly busy! Who says summer is supposed to be relaxing? I need to talk to this person .. and kick them in the head for a bad bad lie!!

Anyways, so as I said in a previous post, I am working for the federal government, The Service Canada Centre for Youth to be exact. What I do there is I help Students/Youth enter the work force, by various methods such as resume writing, job searching and workshops. For the most part I sit at work and look on Wiki .. because my job is primarily based on people and noone ever comes into the office ..

I am back in my hometown of Thompson, Manitoba (missing Nova Scotia very very much) and this summer has been the worst for weather!! RAIN every week!! we have had maybe two weeks of nice weather (for the most part I was stuck in the office so major boooo) and I haven’t really gotten to wear my sumemr clothes (again, major boo). The one plus side to the bad weather, I don’t feel bad staying in watching movies and watching episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (on season 6 now!).

I started running again at the beginning of summer .. but Thundershowers are not safe to run in and thats what the majority of the rain has been .. so I’m pooched pretty much .. at least I didn’t pay for running HAHA.

I’ve also been spending a lot of quality time with my family, you really don’t realize their worth until they drop you off across the country and your suddenly all alone ..

Anyways! I hope you are all well .. how am I doing on my blog? Let me know on here or at twitter.com/soccahchic17 or at NerdFighters!! My profile there is http://nerdfighters.ning.com/profile/AmandaSanders

Thanks!!
